Concerns over personal debt levels in Liverpool

There is no doubt that personal debt levels amongst many households and individuals have been soaring over recent years, and whilst many people have been trying to avoid increasing their debt because of the ongoing difficult financial climate there are many that have simply been unable to avoid this and have also been struggling with existing debt that has become more difficult to repay because of increased financial difficulties such as pay cuts, soaring living costs, and job losses amongst other things.

Concern has now been raised regarding the level of personal debt that has been seen in Liverpool. The concerns have been raised by the national debt charity Consumer Credit Counselling Service. The charity said that the situation with personal debt levels in Liverpool has worsened, with fewer people now able to repay their debts in this area.

According to the debt counselling service in addition to there now being fewer people in Liverpool that are able to keep on top of their debt repayments there are also now more people in the area that are looking for help with their debts. This is the second year in a row where there has been an increase in the number of people that are looking for debt related assistance.

Figures that have been released by the charity have shown that last year there were only 502 people out of nearly two thousand that were counselled for debt problems who had enough disposable income to being on a repayment plan. CCCS said that it was vital for anyone in the Liverpool area who is struggling with their debt to ensure that they contact someone for free debt advice and assistance.

An official from the CCCS said: “I am very concerned about the personal debt situation in Liverpool.”
