You make some great points here. I think the problem is that many people (consumers) see a credit card as an extension of their wealth, and marketing and pressure urges them to spend more than they can afford. The mindset is “if I can’t afford it, I’ll put it on my credit card”, and that’s obviously where the debt creeps in.
The aim has to be to change this mindset so that it is used to offset payments for a short time, and pay off the balance when you get your statement.
